AN ENGAGED ARTIST

SPHERE

International cooperation
Bronze selected by the United Nations Secretariat, exhibited at the COP 21 in Paris in 2015 in the ‘climate generation’ areas of Le Bourget.

bronze foundry Paris Draw 1/8

height: 80 cm

We are all citizens of the world.

This bronze represents our planet formed of men and women connected to each other in fraternity and peace. Human civilization has become a global village, which implies interdependencies on many levels. This sculpture reminds us of the crucial role of international cooperation in the challenges ahead.

The pyramid on the pharaonic model is the basis for this human ‘sphere’. Together they represent the human genius, both scientific (the pyramid is a pure human creation, one of the symbols of our civilization) and spiritual (the sphere represents our place between the infinitely small and the infinitely large, from the atom to the star. The goal is to find a balance between these two forces to preserve our living conditions on earth.

SPHERE was exposed at the COP21 in Paris and presented to Ségolène Royal, Minister of Ecology and Sustainable Development, as well as hundreds of citizens representing more than 50 countries from around the world, including Jean-Pascal van Ypersele, Nobel Peace Prize 2007 for his work on climate change. Jean Sébastien received a letter from Pope François in support of this sculpture.
